Overview

Learn how to turn older dungeon clears and gold-reward world quests into dependable income without waiting for Auction House sales. This guide covers Freehold, THE MOTHERLODE!!, and an alt-friendly quest routine, with practical routes and realistic calculations for deciding which method suits your characters.

How Raw Gold Farming Works

Raw gold farming combines money looted directly from enemies with the proceeds from selling their drops to NPC vendors. Unlike selling crafting materials or transmog, the payout does not depend on finding a buyer.

For these routes, the total includes looted coins, vendor trash, equipment, and any materials you choose to sell. That distinction matters: the coins enemies drop are only part of the return.

These methods offer a straightforward way to build WoW gold reserves for repairs and routine expenses. However, quoted hourly earnings are not guarantees. Loot variation, character speed, dungeon difficulty, travel, and instance limits all affect your results.

Preparation Checklist

  • Use a character comfortably above the level of the dungeon enemies.
  • Select a repeatable difficulty, such as Normal, rather than a difficulty with restrictive boss lockouts.
  • Bring reliable area damage and movement abilities.
  • Clear bag space before starting and arrange convenient vendor access.
  • Enable automatic looting if it helps your workflow.
  • Record your starting gold and include selling time in your measurements.

You do not need an elaborate gear setup when enemies die quickly. Once damage is sufficient, movement, gathering enemies, and looting usually become the more important bottlenecks.

Freehold: A Fast Trash-Clearing Route

Freehold is a Battle for Azeroth dungeon in Tiragarde Sound. Its outdoor layout makes it suitable for mounted gathering: move through the dungeon, collect hostile enemies, and kill them in concentrated groups.

The key is not to drag every enemy from the entrance to the final area. Some early enemies take too long to catch up, turning an apparently efficient pull into a wait.

Step-by-Step Freehold Route

  • Enter on your chosen repeatable difficulty and mount where permitted.
  • Kill the initial enemies in the elevated entrance area before moving deeper.
  • Cross the bridge and gather hostile packs along the route toward the final boss.
  • Skip neutral enemies that would require a separate stop unless they are conveniently caught in an existing pull.
  • Use a rock or other solid obstacle to break line of sight and bring ranged enemies together.
  • Engage and defeat the final boss promptly when safe, rather than leaving its encounter sequence until the end of your cleanup.
  • Finish the gathered enemies, loot thoroughly, leave, and reset the instance.

Breaking line of sight is particularly useful against casters. Moving behind an obstacle forces enemies that cannot attack you from their position to approach, making area damage and looting more efficient.

A Druid can use Dreamwalk as an exit shortcut. In the usual dungeon travel interaction, using it again returns the character near the dungeon entrance. This is a convenience, not a requirement; other classes can use ordinary exit methods.

Freehold Earnings and the Hourly Limit

A useful reference is approximately 465 gold from a four-minute run, including vendored drops. Multiplying that by fifteen runs gives 6,975 gold, but that calculation ignores the instance-entry limit.

Repeatable dungeon farming is constrained by the ten-instance-per-hour limit. At ten equivalent Freehold clears, the reference payout becomes about 4,650 gold before additional expenses. Faster clears create spare time; they do not automatically allow more entries.

Higher returns require better actual loot totals, not just a faster stopwatch. Treat claims of 7,000–12,000 gold per hour as estimates to verify, rather than an expected result from the example above.

THE MOTHERLODE!!: Three Pulls and Valuable Vendor Loot

THE MOTHERLODE!! is another Battle for Azeroth dungeon, located in Kezan and reached through faction-specific access associated with Zuldazar. Its dense groups of enemies make broad trash clearing the main attraction.

The route works best as roughly three large pulls rather than one dungeon-wide train. Early enemies can trail behind, and waiting for them near later bosses wastes the time saved by gathering everything at once.

First Pull: Gather the Opening Area

Stay mounted while collecting hostile enemies before the first boss. Check nearby side spaces for enemies that are easy to overlook, then bring the group back toward the dance-floor area.

Kill the gathered pack there so nearby neutral enemies can be included without making a separate trip. Loot the pile before moving onward.

Resetting after only this opening section may look attractive, but short clears consume the same instance allowance as longer ones. A fuller route makes better use of each entry.

Second and Third Pulls: Clear Forward in Sections

Gather the next stretch of enemies, stop to kill and loot them, then repeat through the remaining route. Keep pulls large enough to be efficient without letting stragglers stretch across the dungeon.

When approaching a boss, defeat it promptly if your damage allows. Avoidable phase changes and scripted sequences can add delay. Once the encounter is handled, finish any following trash and collect its drops.

The objective is a complete, repeatable clear rather than the largest possible pull. A controlled route is easier to reproduce and makes missed loot less likely.

What the Example Payout Actually Means

A reference clear yields about 870 gold after vendoring and takes six to seven minutes. At six minutes, ten equivalent runs produce approximately 8,700 gold. At seven minutes, the theoretical rate is about 7,460 gold before extra downtime.

Those figures do not establish a guaranteed 10,000–15,000 hourly return. Measure several clears and use the average, including exits, resets, and selling. For dependable WoW Retail gold planning, sustained earnings matter more than the best individual run.

Vendor Everything—or Keep Selected Drops?

The simplest method is to vendor equipment, trash, and materials after each clear. It gives an immediate result and keeps inventory management predictable.

However, not every drop is necessarily best sold to a vendor. Some BoE items may interest transmog buyers, while crafting materials can have market value beyond their vendor price.

  • Choose immediate income: vendor ordinary drops and keep the farming loop simple.
  • Choose selective selling: set aside items you already know have worthwhile demand.
  • Keep accounting separate: unsold listings are not earned gold.

Avoid turning every bag cleanup into a lengthy price-checking session. If you prefer market trading, establish a small keep list beforehand. Otherwise, the appeal of this farm is precisely its independence from buyer demand.

Gold World Quests: A Complementary Alt Routine

World quests provide a useful break from dungeon repetition. Check the map for quests that explicitly display gold as their reward, then group nearby objectives into a short route.

World Quest Tracker can help display available rewards, but the standard map also provides the information needed to choose objectives. An addon is optional.

  • Inspect the displayed reward before traveling.
  • Prioritize short objectives close together.
  • Include a world boss only when its associated reward justifies the trip.
  • Repeat eligible quests on other characters that have access to them.

Some quests may offer around 1,000 gold, but availability and reward amounts vary. Do not assume every world quest or world boss pays that amount. Use the reward shown in game.

Multiple eligible characters expand this routine, but their travel and completion time still count. Several well-positioned alts can be more convenient than moving one character across widely separated zones.

Choosing the Best Routine

Freehold suits players who want quick clears and simple gathering. THE MOTHERLODE!! offers longer clears that use more of each instance entry. World quests supplement both with visible rewards and character-specific opportunities.

Track a full farming session rather than extrapolating from one pull. Subtract starting gold from ending gold after vendoring, account for expenses, and divide by total time. This reveals whether the route genuinely supports your consumable budget or larger savings goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Druid for Freehold?

No. Dreamwalk offers a convenient exit, but any sufficiently strong character can clear the dungeon. Movement and area damage help more than a specific class requirement.

Why not reset after the first pull?

Short runs quickly use the ten-instance-per-hour allowance. Clearing more enemies per entry can improve sustained income when that limit becomes the bottleneck.

Should I sell cloth and other materials to vendors?

Yes, if immediate income and simplicity are your priorities. Keeping valuable materials for market sales may earn more, but introduces extra management and waiting.

Are the quoted hourly earnings guaranteed?

No. Drops and efficiency vary, and headline estimates can overlook entry limits. Use several completed runs and total elapsed time to calculate your own rate.

Can world quests be repeated on alts?

Eligible characters can complete available world quests separately. Each character must meet the relevant access requirements, and rewards should be checked before starting.
