Overview

RuneScape 3’s balance update changes several important parts of the Blood Knights duo encounter, alongside fixes for Arch-Glacor, the Bow of the Last Guardian and seasonal clue caskets. Here is what changes mechanically, what those adjustments mean for preparation, and how Halloween participation fits around normal training.

The main takeaway is greater flexibility rather than a completely different encounter. Tank stacks build less aggressively, switching tanks has a clearer reset condition, and several phase-specific interactions become more forgiving. Elsewhere, the fixes address targeting reliability, weapon damage interactions and event convenience.

Blood Knights Tank Stacks and Switching Changes

The largest adjustment concerns the damage-taken stacks applied to tanks. Each stack now increases damage taken by 4% rather than 8%, while the maximum number of stacks rises from 12 to 24.

These changes need to be read together. The penalty per stack is halved, but the stack cap doubles. At the maximum, the stated stacking penalty still adds up to 96%. This is therefore not a reduction to the maximum possible penalty; it changes how that penalty accumulates.

  • Each tank stack adds 4% damage taken.
  • The maximum stack count increases to 24.
  • All stacks clear after 30 seconds without being attacked by the Blood Knight.

That last change is particularly relevant to duo coordination. Jagex describes the adjustment as intended to better accommodate tank switching. Partners should plan around the full reset window rather than assuming that a brief change of target removes the accumulated pressure.

What This Means for Duo Preparation

Agree on tank responsibilities before starting and communicate when a switch happens. The important distinction is between transferring the boss’s attention and actually completing the 30-second period required to clear stacks.

A failed handover or an attack landing on the previous tank can interfere with that recovery plan. The update supports more deliberate switching, but it does not remove the need to track who is taking attacks and how long the other player has been clear.

Before committing more RS3 GP to equipment, make sure both players understand the revised stack behaviour. Better gear does not replace a coordinated handover.

Phase Three and Phase Five Become More Forgiving

Blood Knights also receives targeted changes to phase mechanics. These are worth separating from the tank adjustments because they affect different moments of the encounter.

Phase Three Stack and Channel Changes

In phase three, death now adds 25 stacks instead of 50. Channeling adds one tick instead of two. Both adjustments reduce the stated additions associated with those interactions.

Players also receive brief protection from telegraphed attacks when returning from the heart. This addresses the transition back into danger, but the protection is described as brief. Treat it as a safer re-entry window, not a reason to ignore the next attack.

Once back, identify the next mechanic and resume positioning promptly. The change reduces immediate transition pressure without establishing that every attack after returning can be disregarded.

Phase Five Shield Activation

The phase-five shield button now activates instantly when clicked. This makes the response to the input more immediate, an important distinction during a defensive mechanic.

The change concerns activation timing, not an announced removal of the mechanic. Players should still recognise the relevant cue and use the shield deliberately rather than relying on the fix to compensate for missed inputs.

Higher-Enrage Guaranteed Rewards

Guaranteed crimson ichor rewards increase at the 1,000 and 2,000 enrage milestones, with four guaranteed at 2,000 enrage.

A guaranteed reward increase is useful when assessing repeat kills, but it is not enough on its own to establish a profit rate. Completion time, failed attempts, supply consumption and changing item values all affect the outcome.

For players comparing the encounter with other ways to earn RS3 gold, consistent completions remain more useful than an ambitious enrage target that regularly ends in failure. Evaluate the reward adjustment alongside the difficulty your duo can reliably manage.

Arch-Glacor Gets Its Larger Clickbox Back

Arch-Glacor’s larger boss clickbox returns, accompanied by an engine fix intended to make it work correctly. This is a targeting adjustment: the relevant improvement is selecting the boss.

It should not be treated as confirmation that clicking the floor is easier. Boss targeting and choosing a movement destination are different interactions, even when both feel awkward from the same camera angle.

If targeting has been unreliable, test the restored clickbox with your normal camera position. Check boss selection separately from movement inputs so that you can identify which interaction has changed. Avoid assuming that one targeting fix resolves every misclick during mechanics.

Bow of the Last Guardian Passive Damage Fix

The Bow of the Last Guardian receives a fix for an interaction in which multiple activations of its passive could incorrectly override damage.

This is a correction to overlapping passive activations, not an announced redesign of the weapon. Players using the bow should be aware that the affected interaction has been fixed, but there is no supported numerical damage increase to attach to the change.

Likewise, the fix alone does not establish a new equipment ranking or justify a specific Grand Exchange price. When budgeting RuneScape 3 gold for Ranged upgrades, consider the whole setup rather than treating a bug correction as a complete buying recommendation.

Halloween Casket Storage and Crash Fixes

Charos’ clue carrier can now hold the hard, elite and master seasonal clue caskets. This expands its usefulness for players collecting Halloween rewards and reduces the need to keep those caskets loose in their inventory or bank.

A separate hotfix addresses a crash involving spooky hard caskets and Orlando Smith’s hat. Opening those caskets while wearing the hat should no longer crash the game.

These are convenience and reliability changes. Neither establishes a change to casket loot, reward odds or the value of the items inside.

Harvest Hollow Versus Regular Training

Harvest Hollow offers better spooky token earning than collecting event progress passively through ordinary training. However, players can still receive tokens and sweets while continuing activities such as Woodcutting.

The practical choice depends on the goal for the session:

  • Prioritise event currency: Spend time in the Hollow when spooky tokens are the main objective.
  • Prioritise skill progress: Continue normal training and treat event items as additional progress.
  • Balance both: Divide time according to the rewards and experience you actually want.

The house ball activity also has a catch-up mechanic, while participating on a day provides a bonus. Catch-up therefore offers flexibility, but it should not automatically be treated as identical to attending daily. In particular, do not assume that every missed-day benefit or specific cosmetic reward can be recovered in one visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Blood Knights tank stacks have a lower maximum penalty?

No. Halving the per-stack penalty while doubling the cap leaves the stated maximum at 96%. The accumulation and reset behaviour are the important changes.

How long does it take to clear tank stacks?

Stacks clear completely after 30 seconds without being attacked by the Blood Knight. Coordinate switches around that uninterrupted window.

Does the Arch-Glacor fix improve floor clicking?

The announced fix restores the larger boss clickbox and addresses its functionality. It does not specifically promise easier floor selection.

Does the bow fix include a confirmed damage increase?

No numerical increase is specified. The correction prevents multiple passive activations from incorrectly overriding damage.

Must Halloween progress happen inside Harvest Hollow?

No. Ordinary training can provide tokens and sweets, although the Hollow is better for earning spooky tokens specifically.
